Hostels and mess

The institute runs seven boys' hostels and two girls' hostels, housing roughly 1,800 and 145 students respectively. Boys' hostels are a mix of single and triple rooms. Messes are run by students in both, with an international mess for foreign students, and financial assistance is available for those who need it.

  • 24-hour internet, generator backup, guest rooms and an all-night canteen
  • Common rooms with carrom and table tennis; washing machines and geysers in girls' hostels
  • Hostel rules and the hostel booklet are published by the Chief Warden Office
02

Health and counselling

The DSW office has faculty in-charges and assistant in-charges dedicated to student counselling, separately for boys and girls. There is a mediclaim and hospitalisation facility for students. Using any of this is ordinary, not an admission of failure.

  • Counselling in-charges sit under the Dean (Students' Welfare) office
  • Mediclaim and hospitalisation facility for enrolled students
  • Tele-MANAS, the national mental health helpline, is free and reachable on 14416
  • SMP's monitoring team can walk you there if you would rather not go alone
03

Anti-ragging and grievances

Ragging is a punishable offence and MNNIT runs an Anti-Ragging Cell alongside a Grievance Cell and an Equal Opportunity Cell. SMP has had a monitoring team for harassment and mental health concerns since its first year, and reports can be made without giving your name.

  • Anti-Ragging Cell, Grievance Cell and Equal Opportunity Cell operate institute-wide
  • The national anti-ragging helpline, 1800-180-5522, is independent of the institute
  • SMP's monitoring team routes reports to the right office and follows up
  • Anonymous reporting is available and is used

Scholarships and paperwork

Scholarship and fellowship processing, character certificates, mediclaim and convocation awards all run through the DSW office on the ground floor of the Administrative Building. Deadlines are the part people miss.

  • Faculty in-charge and assistant in-charge for scholarships sit in the DSW office
  • Character certificates are issued through the same office
  • Phone: 0532-2271038 / 39
